Being A Supply Teacher For Education Sense Limited
A good supply teacher is an organised and prepared teacher. This guide will help you to prepare so that you can integrate into any setting quickly and with confidence.
It is essential that you keep in regular contact with the office, updating us with your availability and your feedback on any placements you work at. The office will keep you informed of any possible work placements, but you are not obliged to go anywhere you do not want to. You will generally be told of placements in advance where possible. If a booking is taken from a client in the morning you will be immediately informed.
The office will give you as much information as possible about your placement including the needs of the students you will be placed with. If you cannot attend an assignment alert the office immediately. We must know by 7.00am on the day of placement at the latest if you are unable to attend your assignment.
If for any reason you will be arriving late to your assignment you have an obligation to inform the office at the earliest opportunity so provisions can be put in place to ensure pupils are safe and supervised until your arrival.
You are required to arrive at least half an hour early before you start work, this is to enable you to sign in, find out relevant information from the contact at the placement, and ensure you are aware of the discipline policy and health and safety policy in place. Also check what is required of you at the end of the day, you may be required to wait with the children in the class to be picked up, or required to take them outside to waiting guardians or transport.
You are also required to mark work while in your placement, it is usually the case that work is set for you, but you must be prepared for this not being the case.
Ensure you leave the work place in good order before you leave.
Please also ensure that you are dressed appropriately.
You must sign in and out of the building.
Before you leave it is vital you leave a note for the absentee to inform them what work you covered and of any problems you had during your time there.
Should you have any incidents in the classroom you are reminded that you are not entitled to restrain any pupils even if you have received restraint training. Please inform another member of staff that you are having problems by either sending a responsible pupil to the head teacher or next classroom, or call the front office. At the earliest opportunity please then inform the contact of any incidents that have taken place as well as the Education Sense office.
If the school asks you to return the following day, and you are happy to do so, inform the office immediately. Failure to do so may result in incorrect pay.
Remember: - You are responsible for yourself and the pupils in your charge while you are on an assignment.
